Visionbox Studio Theater

Our studio training is centered around the Actor’s Five Questions, taught by Earle Gister, Head of Acting at Yale School of Drama 1980-1999. This is a text-based technique grounded in the exploration of complex theatre literature including, but not limited to, Chekhov, Ibsen, Strindberg, Classical and Contemporary American playwrights, Brecht and Greek plays, and Shakespeare. Classes will focus on character development, behavior, objectives, actions, and language. We also offer week-long summer intensives for theatre artists of all ages. All classes and workshops are taught by Visionbox’s Founding Artistic Director, Jennifer McCray Rincón.

Ms. Rincón has auditioned countless actors for New York productions, repertory companies, and national and international graduate schools. She also directed 18 years of showcases for New York and Los Angeles agents as the Head of Acting at the National Theatre Conservatory. Students of all ages and levels can take this class. It is invaluable for high school students applying to colleges, college graduates applying to graduate schools, and professional actors auditioning for companies, productions, and agencies. Ms. Rincón also offers private coaching. These sessions can be tailored to the particular needs of the artist including but not limited to, audition coaching, text analysis, material/monologue selection, and/or coaching for a particular role.

Finally, Visionbox holds auditions for the company Ensemble every January. The Ensemble represents the core of the Visionbox mission to support the ongoing development of professional actors by providing them with advanced text-based acting technique, movement and voice & speech classes, ultimately leading to the development of new performance work. This idea continues a tradition founded in the 1930s by Harold Clurman and The Group Theatre, whose work addressed the social and moral preoccupations of their time.

Membership is competitive and by audition and interview only. Members are able to take all classes and intensives at a reduced cost. Ensemble members have preference in casting and are encouraged to develop their own projects in our performance space. The members of the Ensemble also mentor and support the younger actors and artists in the Studio. Each Ensemble creates their own collaborative agreements with the approval of the Artistic Director.
